Stephanie Kovac is an award-winning freelance television journalist. Her career spans 20 years in broadcasting. Although based in Dallas, her family roots lead back to Louisiana. The wild essence of the region is something that leaves her longing to return. In 2004, while filming a TV show in Venice, Louisiana, Stephanie first became aware of the magnitude of Louisiana’s land loss. Dozens of locals begged her to come back and do “the real story”. Given her strong belief that man has an obligation to fix what he has destroyed, she immediately committed her time, effort and energy to producing a documentary.
The following year, her fundraising efforts were derailed by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The worldwide television exposure helped to shed light on Louisiana’s disappearing coast. But, the strokes were broad, and a clear picture of the imperiled culture was never exposed.
Stephanie has since changed her own focus. The vanishing coast is only part of the story. The vanishing culture is far more significant – and yet, it is the one story that has not been told.
She is deeply touched by the kindness and generosity of those who have helped her to reach this point, and remains more committed than ever to sharing their story with the world.
Stephanie is president of her own media company, Wishcraft Productions, Inc. She has extensive experience in long format documentaries and has won numerous accolades for her work.
